Karen Armstead, M.A.

Karen Armstead, M.A., is a Licensed Psychologist who joined Saar Psychological Group in the summer of 2016 to provide therapeutic services and perform evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults, including those involved in Circuit and Family Court. She earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Marshall University in 1990. After completing an internship at Pathways Inc. in Ashland, Kentucky she began working at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, at Marshall University in 1990 and worked for 21 years as a Clinical Instructor/Assistant Professor/Adjunct Professor participating in education of medical students in third year psychiatry clerkship through clerkship lectures, teaching clinics, and medical grand rounds. She taught courses through the Department of Psychology and Marshall University Graduate School including Developmental Psychology and Behavioral Aspects of Health and Wellness. She provided psychological services including inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy (group and individual) and psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults including neuropsychological screening evaluations and multidisciplinary evaluations of Autism Spectrum Disorders. During the last 8 years, she has provided in-school psychological services through Prestera Center’s School-Based Program to students in Cabell and Wayne counties in West Virginia including psychological evaluations, individual therapy, treatment planning, and consultation to Prestera staff and Cabell and Wayne County Board of Education staff. She has provided psychological services in private practice through APT (Associates in Psychology and Therapy) in Huntington, West Virginia for the last 4 years. Throughout the community, she has presented on several topics including: Effects of Divorce on Children; Communication in the Workplace; Building Social Skills in Young Children; and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Karen currently resides with her husband and children in South Point, Ohio. She enjoys traveling, cooking, and sporting events.
